Rational self determination Essay Example
Rational self determination Essay Example Rational self determination Essay Rational self determination Essay Name: Course: Institution: Date: Rational Self Determination The positive concepts surrounding autonomy involves complying with the ethical principles in which a person recommends for himself. This means that the liberty found in oneââ¬â¢s will is based on the acquired independence. The will is termed as liberal since it is not established using external factors and hence becomes defined by internal factors. For example, an individual with independence can give him the liberty in decision-making and hence oneââ¬â¢s personal understanding becomes the evaluating factor of what is ethical or unethical. The concept of autonomy is similar to that of rational self-determination, where rationality is perceived in its constricted logic. The significance of autonomy in individuals can therefore, be used as a means to show the relevance of rational self-determination. The act of becoming rational involves a person having the ability to make sound choices independently. However, self-determination involves making personal or individual choices on thinking, behaving or doing something in a particular manner. For example, a teenage girl can decide to take a pregnancy test without confiding or checking with any person. However, in rational self-determination, an individual is required to have a sound or logic purpose and be alert of the logic behind his determination when making the personal decisions. The connection between self-determination and independence brings in the significance of rational self-determination through representing the liberty of will. The significance is drawn from the benefits obtained from free will including the freedom to make decisions without hindrance from limitations set in a particular environment. The liberation is significant for identifying and analyzing the origin of the system involving peopleââ¬â¢s beliefs. It is essential to establish why an individual possesses certain desires and the means in which he allows or refutes their mode of origination. As a result, the basis on which personal decisions are made is well comprehended. Freedom in the place of rational self-determination alerts the individual on his reasons for deciding to act or behave in a particular manner. The individual is able to comprehend that he must have certain grounds for doing certain actions alongside the desires he possesses that are autonomously identified from his known wants and inclinations. Rationalized self-determination is very significant especially in developing certain significant skills required in an individual. This is because it involves applying abilities such as boldness, originality, self-advocacy and decision-making in daily life experiences. Self-determination is witnessed when a person takes control or responsibility of her own life. In this case, a person should be acquainted with setting goals, evaluating alternatives and making sound decisions. Although this process can appear as difficult for beginners, growth eventually takes place through learning and practicing the required skills. The view of rational self-determination where people are expected to base their decisions on logical grounds minimizes the cases of unsolvable inconsistencies. In addition, people develop honest attempts in perceiving things from views of other people. Autonomy is considered important because it gives people free will in making judgments in various situations. However, it is important to restrict that freedom when based on rationality since a society developed with irrationality could lead to individuals suffering greater consequences in the future.

PhD Finance - Effects of Corporate Governance Assignment
PhD Finance - Effects of Corporate Governance - Assignment Example 55), most of these techniques are implemented by organizations since they believe that they add value to the overall organization. According to, good corporate governance entails a much more soporific structure aimed at improving the process of decision making whilst creating appropriate avenues for shareholderââ¬â¢s engagement (American Law Institute, 1997, p. 272). Therefore, the concept of good corporate governance does not merely entail the creation of a governance structure or decision making. There are a number of good corporate governance techniques that an organization can adopt in a bid to increase the firmââ¬â¢s value. These techniques may include analyzing and disclosing the various risks facing the organization, choosing and compensating the management team, enabling the shareholders to vote on board elections and efficiently dealing with employee and management compensation issues (Tully, 2005, p. 18). Implementing these techniques will not only boost the employeesââ¬â¢ morale to work at full efficiency but also enable the investors to be optimistic in terms of the investment returns. Whereas the practices of good corporate governance may vary from one organization to another, there is developing agreement on what the various ideal practices of good corporate governance are. The Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), has come up with an ideal good corporate governance model that can be adopted by organizations (Goldin & Reinert, 2012, p. 261). However, apart from this model, many organizations have developed good corporate governance models which can be adopted by other companies thereby enabling them to maximize their firmââ¬â¢s value. Therefore, the models of good corporate governance are significant in the general performance of the organization since they create a highway of value maximization. American Law

Mathematics Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 2500 words
Mathematics - Essay Example (c) Let us take values u1 = 1 u2 = 2 u3 = 3 u4 = 4 p = q = 1 Putting these values in the MS Office Excel gives the following output. Input Parameters u1 = 1 u2 = 2 u3 = 3 u4 = 4 p = 1 q = 1 Output Values a = 1 b = 1 c = 2 d = 0 The excel file is also attached an if the input values for u1, u2, u3, u4, p and q are changed the solution values a, b, c an d will also get suitably changed. Q1. (d) A set of ââ¬Ëmââ¬â¢ linear equations in ââ¬Ënââ¬â¢ variables is expressed by the following equation in terms of matrix notation: Ax = b Where A is ââ¬Ëmxnââ¬â¢ matrix of the coefficients of the system x is ââ¬Ënx1ââ¬â¢ column vector and b is ââ¬Ëmx1ââ¬â¢ column vector If the ââ¬Ëbââ¬â¢ vector is a zero vector i.e. all the elements of this vector are zero, then the system of equations is called a ââ¬ËHomogeneous Systemââ¬â¢ If the ââ¬Ëbââ¬â¢ vector is non-zero vector i.e. if even one of the elements is non-zero then the system of equations is termed as ââ¬ËNonhomogenous Systemââ¬â¢. Q1. (e) A homogeneous system always has a trivial solution i.e. a solution vector with all the elements being zero. However, for a homogeneous system to have a non-trivial solution the Determinant of Matrix A must be equal to zero. i.e. for non ââ¬â trivial solution of Ax = b (b = 0) Determinant A = 0 Q2. (a) The profile of the boiler shell is made by revolution of a parabola. Let us assume that equation of the parabola is y = a + bx2 Let us place centre of the co-ordinate system at the middle of the shell. Then, at x = 0 y = 2 i.e. 2 = a + b*02; or, a = 2 And at x = 4 y = 1.5 i.e. 1.5 = 2 + b*(42) or, b = - (1/32) Hence equation of the parabola is Y = 2 ââ¬â (1/32)x2 where, -4 < x < 4 Plot of the parabola is shown below. If this parabolic profile is rotated about x-axis, it will produce the shell of the boiler and that will enclose a volume, which will be the volume of water that can be contained and hence boiled in this boiler. Esse ntially, what is required is to calculate the volume enclosed by this rotation. The volume of such a boiler will be Therefore, V = 85 m3 Hence, 85 m3 water can be boiled in the boiler. Q2. (b) Integration is essentially summation and therefore, it is important to realize as what is it that is integrated or summed up. It is essentially the product of the dependent variable (y) and infinitesimally small increment in the independent variable or ?x which is continuously summed up. If we know from which point to which point this summation is to be done, then we get a definite answer and this integral is known as definite integral. Mathematically it is expressed by indicating the limits or boundaries of integration as shown below. This is a definite integral with integration being carried out between ââ¬Ëaââ¬â¢ and ââ¬Ëbââ¬â¢ (a < b) for y, which is a function of x. This definite integral gives many useful parameters like area under curve, area of a curved surface, volume of a container etc. as shown in Q2. (a), where volume of the boiler was calculated using a definite integral. However, many times we many not know the limits of integration, this is where we are not solving any particular physical or engineering problem but just interested in

Nothing but the Truth Essay Example for Free
Nothing but the Truth Essay In Avis book, Nothing But the Truth, there is a quote from a Shakespearian play. Brutus says, No Cassius; for the eye sees not itself/But by reflection, by some other things. I think that in deeper terms, this means that a person cannot see how he or she acts unless someone acts the same way or describes it to them. This quote can be applied to the story because Philip Malloy, the main character cannot see himself clearly. In that way, I am like Philip Malloy. I have no perception of whether my actions have positive or negatives effects and always assume that I am right. In the story, Philip blames his Language Arts teacher for not teaching well and being uptight. He claims that she is the only reason that he does not have a passing grade in that class and therefore the reason that he cannot be on the track team. My opinion is that Philip does not even consider the possibility that he may be part of the problem. I think that if only Philip would try a little harder in Miss Narwins Language Arts class, he would be able to pass. The problem is, Philip is extremely stubborn and insists on believing that his teacher likes picking on him. He refuses to even try to even think about Miss Narwins side of the story. Miss Narwin, in Principal Doanes opinion is one of the best teachers at their school. Miss Narwin, however, thinks that her methods are too old-fashioned and wants to attend a workshop on new approaches to teach literature to students. Her request is turned down and she isnt very happy about that. I think that Miss Narwins desire to take this workshop has a little bit to do with Philip. She knows that Philip has great potential to learn and wants to find a way to connect with him. In what Philip sees as Miss Narwin picking on him is actually an attempt to get him to do better. Sometimes I do not see things clearly either. I have a one track mind. I think that everything I do is right and it is in that way that I am like Philip. When I am wrong, I do not see why and I get frustrated and angry. When this happens I blame it on another person. I do not think about whether there might be another side to the problem or not. To me, there is just no question of me being the cause of the trouble. But if someone would explain to me nicely and clearly, I am usually able to see the logic. In summary, the quote that is on page forty-eight of Avis book, Nothing But the Truth fits with the story nicely. The quote basically says that people need someone to tell them that not everything they do is right and that they may be the ones that are the problem. I am like that too, but as long as someone is there to help me, I will be able to understand.

The Horse Dealer’s Daughter
This presentation reviews the short story, ââ¬Å"The Horse Dealer's Daughter,â⬠written by D. H. Lawrence. What appears to be a desperate situation in Mabel's life turns out to be a moment of epiphany between her and Fergusson when they both realize that they have stumbled upon love inadvertently. It took life teetering on the edge to force them out of their routines to see each other in a different way. ?Animals the three sons and daughter of the horse dealer are compared to animals (mainly dogs and horses); the older brother, Joe, is described as a ââ¬Å"subject animalâ⬠that is about to ââ¬Å"marry and go into harness,â⬠on the other hand, Fred Henry thinks of himself as an ââ¬Å"animal which controls,â⬠Mabel is named â⬠bull-dogâ⬠by her brothers. ?They are all represented by the narrator through an imagery of four horses having no sense of direction and walking in a movement that ââ¬Å"showed a massive, slumberous strength, and a stupidity whi ch held them in subjection. â⬠? Writer describes the physical attributes of the characters ? Inability of both the family and the horses to intelligently respond to situations which bewilder them and over which they have no control. ?Pond ?This drowning in the pond represents the summit of Mabel's depression and confusion. The rescue, on the other hand, represents a second chance to her. ?Dead and cold. ?Dr. Fergusson had no feelings for Mabel before the incident. The narrator describes the pond as lifeless right before the doctor had entered it. Before going in, the relationship between them was dead and cold, and they had no passionate feelings for one another. Dr. Fergusson tries to rescue Mabel for no other reason but because he was doing his job. The pond also describes Dr. Fergusson's life as dull and pointless. His life was still and silent before he had met her. ?He was afraid to go in too deep into the pond, and was afraid of drowning. This represents his fear of falling in love. He was scared of the water because he could not swim, and also because he was scared of love. He never experienced it, so it frightened him. When he finally falls in, he felt Mabel's clothing and pulled her up. This means that when he fell into the pond, he found love. ?Clothes When she is out of the wet and dirty clothes, she is freed from her troubles. The dirty clothes represent how she was before she fell in love. It also represents how she was suicidal and depressed. ââ¬Å"She had on her best dress of black voile,â⬠expresses her happiness and eagerness to start something new. Before she fell in love, she never wore clothing as elegant as this dress. This is something new to her and something she wants to try out. Her change of clothes also represents her change of personality and attitude. She changed from a quiet woman that always kept to herself, to a loving woman that is open- minded. She now feels that there is something to live for since there is someone to love. ?Jack, in saving her life, is bound to Mabel through saving her and this is amplified by his removing her clothes and rubbing her dry. Lawrence exhibits Mabel's life as cold, void, and depressed. Comfort was found in tending the grave of her mother. Mabel was emotionally dead. Jack Ferguson lived a routine in life. Jack was spiritually dead. Perhaps Lawrence tells us that many relationships between men and women happen, perhaps without rhyme or reason or even love.
